Mashallah Team Reward System

I have to admit it was one of those weeks when my students where on a roll. They were not perfect but they where doing various acts of of kindness to each other, working as a team, and encouraging each other.

Then I remembered an idea one of my 5th graders mentioned to me. Her old teacher would write the word “Mashallah” on the board. Every time the class worked as a team to follow directions, be on task, or work together to achieve a goal, she would color in or cross-out a letter from the word “Mashallah”. When the word was completed the class would earn a prize. Something really simple, such as 5 to 10 extra minutes for recess, less (or reduced) HW for the day, or a treat. The students also gave suggestions for things they could earn.

It was a simple idea that the students really enjoyed.

You can even make this more specific, let’s say the students had a certain goal you wanted them to reach. So every time you observed them doing that action as a class then you can cross-out a letter.

Sometimes I just wanted to bring them a treat, but needed them to earn it, so I used this system!

Use this in a way that best suits your class!

I had two rules:

  1. The letters would be marked day by day, meaning if I do not mark it on Monday, when Tuesday comes around we cannot mark a letter for the Monday that passed. So they had to make sure they reminded me at the end of the day to check their progress.
  2. No take-backs, meaning if I marked one of the letters it cannot be taken back. So if the kids where great all day then all of a sudden something changed by the end of the day. If I marked the letter “m” I would not be able to unmark it.

You can use any of the words: Mashallah, Subhanallah, Alhamdulillah, Allahu Akbar. (Which are all included in the printable 🙂 )

Bismillah… Here is the printable: Mashallah TEAM Reward System
